Importance of mentorship

I came to this profession with no experience, no idea about how the law worked, and no idea I was getting myself into a career. The road was bumpy along the way. I am so thankful that so many people along the way were willing to take their valuable time to mentor me and show me the ins and outs of the trade.  I absolutely would not be where I am today without their help.

It is so invigorating to see green newbies excited to learn and do what we do. We have the opportunity to teach new paralegals the right way to do something, instead of the way the attorneys think it's done.

I cannot stress enough what an impact my mentors have had on my life, not just my career. Part of the reason I blog is to give newby paralegals some practical advice they won't find in a text book.

If you are an experienced paralegal, please consider showing the new paralegals in your office the ropes. If you don't have newbies in your office, reach out to your state's paralegal organization.  They likely have a mentor/ mentee program.
